While reading through the board I kept seeing people saying that they could not remember when they sent an autograph request. So I thought I would share what I do to keep track of my requests. I use a few different ways to do this, the best I have found so far is a 5 subject notebook.Below is the first page of it to show how I started it at first.

That's a good idea.
I have set up an Excel spreadsheet recently to keep track of mine. It keeps track of the date I sent it, when I got a response, what type of response it was and the address I sent it to. When I first started I was sending letters out and not making note of the address I sent the letter to. Since my address was the only address on the SASE, I had to make an educated guess at which address I sent my letter out to.
Since I type all of my letters, I keep them organized in folders by the date I sent them out. And now after I print them, I add the address I sent the letter to at the bottom of the letter.
I don't keep track of the emails I've sent though. I use hotmail and they only keep your sent emails for a certain period of time. The expecting reply feature on this site is very helpful to me for the emails I send because that is the only thing I did not keep track of.
Sometimes I get lazy and don't feel like scanning my autograph in as soon as I get it and I forget what date it came in, but I've decided to start writing the date on the envelope when I get it so that doesn't happen again. And I'll try to not be lazy too. I got really bad when I moved because I just didn't have time to do it and I didn't want to post my mail results until I had scanned. I use Microsoft Word...
I keep the addresses there that I want to write to.. And when I have, I write next to it.. "wrote to <date>" and info like sent SASE or pictures, etc.
Then when I receive my success, I write underneath that "received <date>".

Nah... I'd survive with not knowing where or when I got an autograph...
So long as I still have my autographs.

My headings are Date Sent, Date Rec'd, Celebrity, Address Used, Status/Result.
I keep all of my results listed by date sent then alphabetically. I keep re-sends with the date sent.

Different strokes for different folks. A lot of good points posted...
This may have come up before but we should add an "export" feature to the diary so you can download a digital copy of all your results at any time.
Seems like excel is popular so this export should be easily importable into excel.

i think bill gates deserves all the money he's made. he's not like some actress who gets paid millions of dollars for crying in front of the camera or w.e. he did create this AMAZING software. but i totally see where you wanna root for the underdog. =] like i always try to eat at a cute mom and pop restaurant instead of something like applebee's or mcdonald's. |
