What is a SASE?

A SASE is a self addressed stamped envelope, you send one of these when requesting an autograph.

You do not have to send a SASE, but it does increase your chances of getting a request.  Reason being, is that all the celeb will have to do is sign a picture and put it in the envelope.

Be aware that some stars do not sign without SASE's.

What is a SAE?

A SAE is a self addressed envelope

What is a IRC?

IRC's are international reply coupons, and are used to request autographs from other countries.  You send irc's with a SAE, instead of sending a SASE.

Where can I find stamps?

you can find american stamps at www.usps.com , I am not sure about other countries.

How much postage do I need to put on my envelope?

How long will it take before I receive my autograph?

The average amount of wait time to get an autograph is around 3 months.  This can also depend on the popularity of the celebrity.

What is a RTS?

RTS means return to sender, and it means your letter could not be delivered.  Possible causes: change of address, not enough postage, etc...

What is studiofanmail?

Studiofanmail is a service that sends out preprinted or autopenned photos of certain celebrities.  These "autographs" are never authentic.

Different types of autographs?

Authentic- this is a real autograph signed by the celebrity themself

Preprint-  a fake autograph, equivalent to printing a signature off of the computer.  The celeb never actually signs your picture.

autopen- the result of a picture being ran through a machine.  The celebrity does not actually sign the picture.

Secretarial- a picture signed by someone other than the celebrity, these autographs sometimes look authentic.

Do I have to send a picture with my request?

The answer to this question, is no you do not.  If you want a particular picture signed, then go ahead and send it.  The celebrity will usually have pictures to send you though, and sometimes refuse to sign other photos due to contracts, or fear they will be sold on eBay.

Beware, that if you send a picture, it may not come back.  So dont send a picture you dont want to lose.

What do I write in my letter?

So, its your first time writing to a celeb?  Dont worry, just be honest.  Tell them how much you enjoy their work, and list a few things you have seen them in.  Remember to be completely honest, and write your letter from the heart.  Once you start writing, the words will just come to you.

Remember not to make your letter too long, because they are busy people.  And at the end, politely ask for an autographed picture.

Can I email my favorite celebrity?

It all depends.  Some actors and actresses have fan email addresses, while most dont.  Please only email celebs you are a fan of though, do not just email them for a free autograph.  Some will require you to send a SASE.  Check the database for email addresses.

Can I write my favorite celeb at his or her home?

No, please do not find the address and write to them at their house.  This is considered an invasion of privacy.  Its considered stalking actually, and can be taken very seriously.  Please only use fanmail addresses, most are listed on this site.

Where can I find an address for my favorite celebrity?

There are many addresses listed right on this site!  Just click on this link and search for the celebrity on the left of the page

If the celebrity you are looking for is not listed, please request him/her

How do I add a celebrity address?

Please make sure you search the database first, to make sure the address is not already listed.

How Do I upload an image?

Can you write a letter to a celebrity too and put it in a normal white envelope?

Yes, the evelopes do not have to be yellow or manilla colored.  They can be just about any color you can find them in.

And if you want a personalized autograph, do you have to ask to make it personalized?

Most of the time the celebrity will personalize it for you.  This is to prevent people from selling their autographs.  You can however ask for your picture to be personalized, it wont hurt anything.  The agent may set a picture aside, so when the celeb comes by, they can personalize it for you.

How long have I been collecting autographs?

For about 5 years Tongue

I've got the celeb's address, and I want to request a photo of the celeb from a particular film that was made almost 30 years ago (a photo of the celeb in that part). I cannot find any of these photos anywhere, or I'd get one and send it. Is it OK to ask the celeb for an autographed photo of them in that part (assuming they even have one), or is this considered bad taste?

if you mention you liked the celeb in a certain part, sometimes they do have pictures left over.  It wouldnt be wrong to ask for it, but they may not have it, and may send you a more recent picture.

goodluck with your request & welcome to the site!

Any other questions, post them here, and I will add them & the answers in Big%20smile

Question, I signed up as a Bronze Member does this mean that I still get that book for free the site was offering about the book of tips to write to celebrities if people signed up?

Hi Milano101:
You receive the free e-book when you sign up as a Gold member. As a Bronze member, you still get the benefit of receiving a free celebrity address every month at no charge. The Autograph Collector's Handbook is a promo that is given when you sign up for the Gold membership.
Hope this helps.
Best Wishes.

Hi Movie Eye Support

Sorry made an error, I did/am signed up as a Gold Member. Just wondering how long it takes for the e-book to be delivered because I am going away soon and I dont want it to come when I am not here because my sister will nick it lol. How many weeks approximately does it take to ships over here. I live in Western Australia (Perth).

I would like to read the e-book first before I write and send off letters to celebrities requesting a autograph. If you know what I mean, so I know what to write/say and so on.

Thanks in advance

Hi,everyone!

I'm a new member and I have to check out if I got this right. I live in Europe, Montenegro to be precise, and if I want to sent a letter with a SASE I'd have to put an envelope with the US stamps and my address (if the celebrity lives in the USA) within an envelope, right? So, first I'd have to buy US stamps (what kind? how many?) via Internet and wait for ages to get them... Oh, this is *so* complicated... Unhappy

Oh, in "locaton" part it's written Bosnia and Herzegovina, because Montenegro wasn't in the list at all...Disapprove

Angelique, you can buy US stamps from www.usps.com

You can search using the International Postage Calculator, to find out how much it will be to send to you from the US. You'll probably need to buy the 80c stamps, and put 3 on each 9x12" envelope (your self-addressed one).

I was wondering if you wanted a autographed photo do you have to give them a bigger envolope than a regular legal sized one so that the photo fits inside?

yes, you must put atleast a 9x12 evelope if you expect a 8x10 autographed photo.  You put the SASE inside a larger envelope, or evelope of the same size if you are folding the SASE.

I send standard envelopes and fold up a 9x12. You can send smaller envelopes if that's all you can afford (plus postage), and you'll just get a smaller signed picture from them.

Milou - of course you should send the celebrity a letter as well as the envelope. How else will they know what you expect? They won't just send out pictures to an envelope. Lol. You have to write a kind, honest letter explaining what a huge fan you are.

When I ask for a picture, I tell them how much I'd love a picture, and then add as another sentence "Maybe even signed to me? It would mean the world to me!"  Or something along those lines..

Good luck!
