How should I write my letter?

Please read: Autograph Requests - Letter Layout and Writing the Letter

How do I search for a celebrity address?

On the main MovieEye website: MovieEye
You will see a search box on the left hand side.

How do I submit an address result?

Go onto the main MovieEye website: MovieEye , search for the celebrity you wrote to, then look through the addresses for the one you used. Click on submit a test result. Should the address you used not be listed on the celebrity’s page, then feel free to submit the address for the celebrity (scroll down the page a bit) – you will need to wait a few days for the address to be added to the database, upon which time, you will receive an email letting you know it has been added, and then you can go on and submit your test result.

What is an SASE?

SASE - SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE (This is an envelope you send to the celebrity with your letter (usually a 9x12" envelope), with your address on it, and with the correct postage added already.)

How do I get the postage for my SASE?

Go to your local post office, and find out how much it would be to ship an envelope of that size and weight (remember to put cardboard and a picture inside when weighing for your test), and they will be able to tell you the postage required. Should you be sending to another country, you may want to send IRCs for a reply.

What is an IRC?

IRC - INTERNATIONAL REPLY COUPON (These are similar to money orders, that entitles the receiver to redeem it for sending 1 standard airmail letter to the country it came from. To receive a response, 2 is the lowest amount you can send. 3 or 4 would allow for a greater chance of success.)

For a little more information on IRCs, please read: IRCs

Where do I get IRCs?

IRCs can be obtained from your local post office. If they do not have in stock, they should be able to order some in for you.

What envelopes should I use?

SASE – It is recommended you use a brown/manilla 9x12” (A4) envelope for your SASE or SAE.

Letter – You may use any size envelope for your letter.

Own item/photograph – When sending your own item or photograph, use an envelope that will easily fit it (and protective measures), along with your SASE or SAE and IRCs.

How long does it take for a response?

It can take anywhere between 7 days and 3 years to receive a result from an address. If you do not hear back after a year, it is sometimes recommended to try again (especially if other people have received successes from the address you used). Do not become discouraged – remember, celebrities are busy people too.

How long should my letter be?

It is better to try keep your letter to 1 page.

Should I hand-write my letter or type it?

This is entirely up to your personal choice. Hand-written letters may seem more personal, but it is often difficult to read somebody else’s handwriting. Typed letters look neat and professional, and you can hand-sign your name at the end to give it a more personal touch.

There are many addresses listed for the celebrity, which one do I write to?

If an address already has successes, write to that one. If more than one address has had a success, write to the address with the most recent result added. If none of the addresses have results, it is recommended to try writing to the address most recently uploaded to the database, as it is more likely a current address.

Must I send my own photograph/item?

No, you do not have to. You can however choose to send your own item/picture. This way, you get exactly what you want signed.

May I send any pictures to a celebrity?

Always make sure to check for copyright. It is against the law to print a copyrighted image.

What do all the different terms and acronyms mean?

Please read: Term Definitions

A celebrity I am searching for is not on the database. What can I do?

If you already have an address for the celebrity you are searching for, you can submit their address to the website here: Submit an address

If you are looking for an address of a celebrity, you can request that one be added to the website here: Request an address

You may also go to the Members Helping Members section of the website to request and/or add celebrity addresses for other members here: Members Helping Members

My post office says they do not carry IRCs. What now?

Please read: Trouble with IRCs

May I put US stamps on my international requests?

Yes, you may. I live in South Africa, and I use US stamps on my SASE, no matter which country in the world I am writing to. I do this, because my country does not make IRCs.

I have received unmarked or non-cancelled stamps on my SASE. May I re-use them?

Although it is technically against the law, a lot of people do this. If you want to do it without it appearing re-used, soak the stamp and paper in a bowl of water for a few hours, the stamp will fall off the paper. You can then dry it between newspaper with a hard book on top. When it is dry, you can glue it onto a new envelope.

I am trying to receive my success by a certain date (eg. a birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, etc), when should I send my request?

Robert Pattinson / Kristen Stewert "Twilight") The NEW folks in the Star Trek movie.. for the most part due to enormous amount of requests they get for autographs. It is most likely they will not see or get your request for a signed photo. Their mail is probably handled by a agency. For the most part, sadly, you would lose out on your photo, postage and total investment with nothing in return. If anything maybe a pre-print. Which does nto mean much to a collector. Try to stick with lower key celebrities. Maybe folks from your favorite shows.. which are not the main characters (for starters). Or people from older movies or TV shows. Also keep a record of when you sent out your request: example...Robert Downey Jr request sent 6-1-09Then also write in on what date you got your signed photo back. And if it was a pre-print or authentic signed items.I do most of my stuff in person now as I chase celebrities for a living.. but when I started and was mailing for autographs.. I once waited just under 3 years to get a signed photo back. There is quite a bit to learn.. I am always glad to help..as is I am sure everyone in here.

Wow, that quote didn't really work. Sorry for the bug everyone, but it's still a good piece of advice.
